Strong and healthy eyelashes? Check how to make your eyelashes beautiful

Do you know that eyelashes get old with the whole body and with age they are more and more susceptible to damage? Actually, it is thanks to the eyelashes that our face and eyes look good. Check what you can do to have healthy and strong lashes, and, therefore, always look beautiful.

Eyelash growth cycle

The growth of eyelashes is conditioned by three phases: anagen, catagen and telogen. The first phase is very short, as it lasts only two or three weeks. It is followed by catagen, when the hair follicles shrink to finally enter the resting phase, i.e. telogen. During this phase, eyelashes begin to fall out and the whole cycle begins again and repeats every three or four months. Interestingly enough, in the intensive growth phase are 60 – 80% of all eyelashes. Conclusions? If the anagen phase is extended, eyelashes become longer and thicker. This effect can be obtained by using cosmetics with appropriate ingredients.

FUN FACT

How many eyelashes fall out each day? As it turns out, on the upper eyelid there are from 150 to 200, and on the lower eyelid from 50 to 150. Those on the upper eyelid have a length from 8 to 12 mm, and on the lower eyelid from 6 to 8 mm. Eyelashes are arranged in two rows. We lose between one and two eyelashes a day. But if you lose more, you should see a dermatologist or ophthalmologist as soon as possible.

How to take care of eyelashes?

The most popular methods of eyelash care are castor oil and eyelash serums. The former has regenerating and moisturising properties, thanks to which the eyelashes become stronger and better nourished. Unfortunately, castor oil improperly applied may irritate the skin of the eyelids and eyes. Therefore, a safer solution is the eyelash serum. Such products also enhance growth of eyelashes. To make it possible, the composition of the conditioner should contain the following ingredients:

  • hyaluronic acid – provides the optimal level of skin hydration and protects the eyelashes from overdrying,
  • biotin and vitamin B12 – prevents the eyelash loss,
  • panthenol – rebuilds the structure of eyelashes and increases their elasticity,
  • plant extracts – have antioxidant properties, moisturise and regenerate.

 Eyelash care – basic rules

1. Regularity

The application of any kind of cosmetic make sense only when it’s done on a regular basis. When it comes to eyelash care, it is best to apply the cosmetics in the evening, after removing make-up and washing the face. One of the most popular products of the type are eyelash serums. They are applied directly to eyelashes or eyelids. You can also use mascara primers that at the same time improve the final effect of your make-up.

2. Make-up removal

Incorrectly performed or skipped make-up removal results in eyelash loss as well as skin and eye problems. That is why every evening you should pay special attention to how you do it. Be careful not to rub your eyelashes too much. Use a cotton pad and a two-phase make-up remover, press it against your eye and let the cosmetic dissolve your make-up.

3. Eyelash curler

This is a very useful gadget, but if used excessively and inaccurately, it can seriously weaken the condition of your lashes. It’s important not to use it after applying mascara as it can result in brittle lashes. A better solution is to use a curling, thickening and lengthening mascara.

4. Healthy habits

Make sure you don’t use an old mascara. You should replace it with a new one more or less every three months, as after this time mascaras lose their properties. An idea worth considering is the use of mascara and conditioner in one. This way, you have everything in only one cosmetic. Instead of using the cosmetic every evening, you can eat healthy food, avoid sleeping on your stomach and rub olive oil on your eyelids.
